Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces 2022 Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award to Six Georgia Recipients

March 30, 2022 – The 2022 recipients of the Joseph D. Greene Community Service Award were announced by Healthcare Georgia Foundation at Connections 2022: Health Equity: From Conversation to Action on March 28, 2022. Five individual recipients and one community collaborative in Georgia were recognized during an awards ceremony at the Foundation’s ninth statewide convening of nonprofit grantees, partners, and community leaders.

It was an evening of great anticipation. Beginning with a convivial sharing time where there was much genuine laughter and comradery on display. The formal proceeding began with this statement from Gary D. Nelson, PhD, president, Healthcare Georgia Foundation: “It is the Foundation’s honor and privilege to recognize and uplift these health heroes and the important work they accomplish within their communities. Their dedication, passion, and selflessness in this work is a true inspiration, and we thank them for their tireless efforts.”

The first award recipient was Shirley E. “Bella” Borghi who serves as the Executive Director and Vice-Chairman of the Hispanic Health Coalition of Georgia. Bella’s achievements at HHCGA have been numerous, and her untiring efforts to secure equitable access to healthcare on behalf of the Hispanic and underserved communities, speaks loudly and eloquently to her life’s purpose and passion.

We offer our congratulations to Bella along with our gratitude for all the work that she consistently and caringly delivers on behalf of disadvantaged and underserved communities in the State of Georgia.
